Neon continues to grow M&A team with appointment of Bird & Bird Legal Director

Neon appoints Vanessa Young to the role of Underwriter & Solicitor - M&A Insurance, reporting to the Head of M&A Liability Insurance, Rob Brown.

Vanessa joins Neon from her previous role as Legal Director at Bird & Bird LLP. Vanessa brings extensive UK and international M&A experience with considerable expertise in the renewable energy sector and advising infrastructure funds, private equity and other institutional investors.

Vanessa’s hire is part of Neon’s broader ambition to consolidate its position as a market leader in the sector, helping to address the growing demand for M&A insurance as a result of increased utilisation by financial and corporate clients during transactions. Vanessa will play a key role in supporting the expansion of Neon’s market leading M&A team as it continues to serve clients with their wealth of specialist expertise and experience.

Her experience will enable Neon to offer clients specialist M&A insurance solutions in the renewable energy, tech and funds sector amongst other strategic trade sectors.

Martin Reith, Chief Executive Officer, Neon, commented:

“We remain committed to our strategy of growing Neon by building on our existing capabilities in the areas where we have identified long-term growth opportunities. Vanessa’s hire is yet further evidence that Neon is providing an environment and platform which attracts some of the market’s brightest and best and is an essential part of our growth plans.”

“As a former Legal Director of a leading city law firm, Vanessa’s hire will contribute to the ongoing expansion of the M&A team and demonstrates our commitment to growing the business as we continue to make a significant impact in this sector. We are delighted to welcome Vanessa to Neon and look forward to the ongoing success of the M&A team.”

Vanessa’s appointment follows the appointment last month of former Dentons Partner, Andrew Thornton, and the hire of Neon’s specialist M&A team in 2015. The innovative team continues to draw on its extensive legal and underwriting expertise as well as the insights gained from helping clients to insure hundreds of complex M&A transactions per year.

As previously announced, Gregg McPhee also joins Neon in the newly created role of Head of Political Violence.
